Whalley Range Tree Group is an offshoot of WRCAG, bringing together members who are passionate about trees (and even shrubs!).
Our mission is to preserve existing trees and plant more wherever possible.
Why Trees Matter
Trees are a vital part of what makes Whalley Range special. They:
Capture carbon and contribute to climate resilience.
Support biodiversity.
Enhance wellbeing and are stunningly beautiful.
We focus on local action, including:
Finding new places to plant trees and shrubs, often collaborating with local groups like Whalley Range Cricket Club.
Protecting existing trees by working with City Council arboriculturists.
Liaising with city councillors about tree-related issues in the ward.
Partnering with local organisations that maintain large green spaces, such as:
Monitoring and responding to planning applications that threaten healthy trees.
Ensuring compliance with Tree Protection Orders.
Developing a tree walk to showcase the most interesting trees in Whalley Range and spark conversations about their future.
Building city-wide connections with similar groups in Rusholme, Moss Side, and beyond.
