Welcome to Whalley Range Climate Action Group.
We are local organisations working together. We want to do what we can to protect and restore our natural world, stop climate change getting worse, and build a more sustainable future for our community. We think globally and act LOCALLY in Whalley Range. If you are interested in nature, clean energy, conservation, waste reduction, or environmental justice for all communities, we offer a space to get involved.

Meeting with Our MP – We meet our MP about four times a year to discuss climate and environmental concerns.
Working with Schools – We collaborate with staff, parents, and children at local primary schools to help educate children about "green" issues.
Community Engagement – We set up stalls at local events to raise awareness about climate issues and highlight key concerns.
School Streets Stewarding – We help steward School Streets, making roads safer and less polluted for children on their way to school.
International Twinning – We are "twinned" with Chibombo People's Climate Action in Zambia and fundraise to support their work in tree planting and food security.
Supporting Manchester Climate Alliance – We contribute to a citywide network of environmental and climate action groups, helping them support each other and campaign more effectively.
Faith-Based Partnerships – We work with local faith groups to reduce carbon emissions, including support for the Methodist Eco Church process. We also helped a local primary school host an event on stewardship of the earth’s resources, featuring contributions from Muslim, Jewish, Sikh, Humanist, and Christian speakers.
Promoting Environmental Literature – Saynab Shire, a Whalley Range environmentalist and mother of five, has written a children’s book that explores an Islamic spiritual approach to gardening, offering inspiration to anyone who finds joy in growing.
Planning and Development Advocacy – We review and comment on local planning applications, advocating for climate-friendly solutions while opposing proposals that increase traffic and emissions.
